Can someone tell me what the difference is between the M5 166 and the M6 166?

I currently run 172s and am looking into adding 15mm spacers in the rear and 5mm spacers in the front to make the wheels flush with the fenders ?? now thinking of changing my wheels to the 166. Which ones do I buy and do I still need spacers?

Thanks guys?..

Buy the M6 Offset and no need for spacers. Or you do what I did buy the M5 offset with 12 mm spacers in the back as there is no need for the front. This way it is safer for no rubbing issues. If you search the forum you will find tons of data on this subject. Good Luck.

M5 166 offsets

F ET: 12
R ET: 28

M6 166 offsets
F ET: 12
R ET: 17

That 11 mm difference in the R ET's with the M6 offsets pushes the wheels closer/more flush to the fenders, as stated above, with M6 offsets, you most likely won't need spacers, with M5 offsets you can run spacers if you want them pushed further out as you will have room to work with (10mm or 12mm spacers)

if you run the recc'd tire sizes: Front 245/35-19" and Rear 275/30-19"

with m5 offsets no rubbing (including 12mm spacers)

with the M6 offsets, no rubbing as well unless you plan on lowering your e60.....in which it might rub...

I would still run spacers with the M6 rear offsets, but that's just me =)
