Hey guys. Anyone considered an M3 engine for their E60? I believe the engine is designated S54, and I would think it's similar to the M54 (six cylinder)in our new 5's. Anyone have any thoughts on the subject?

There shouldn't be any problem fitting the engine and I'm sure someone could workout the software issues, but with that said, it doesn't seem like a good idea.
Simply getting a 545i would seem to be more cost effective or maybe FI in your 530.
e46 M3
333 bhp @ 7900 rpm
262 lb-ft @ 4900 rpm
e60 545i
325 bhp @ 6100 rpm
330 lb-ft @ 3600 rpm

Not sure if the 530 has the same engine as the 330, but there are a more than a few 330 owners who have supercharged their engines to meet or exceed the performance of the M3.
The overall cost should be less than a M3 as well.

The 530 does have the same engine as the 330. I believe all equivalent engines are the same in the BMW range. Only difference is probably due to the way the exhaust sound is tuned to make it more refined or sporty depending on model etc.
