Hello Swajames. Excellent news if its true. Now you can get the best handling without the the biggest engine. But I'm still a little confused. A 540i M sport in the UK can be had without active anti roll (with good old fashion stiff mechanical anti roll bars). Is this going to be possible in the US with a 535 M sport I wonder. It makes sense that they would exclude the 550. Since the LCI update in 2007 it has had the M sport springs, shocks and bumpstops from the euro package (I checked the OEM part numbers). But its still got the hydraulic anti roll - so not quite as stiff as the euro M sport w/out dynamic drive.

I heard they are tightening up the 650 sport and M6 competition package as well. Way to go BMW!

BTW as fantastic as the 535 is, its torque curve is so flat that it lacks the gusto of the 550 IMHO. It's not even close from the seat of the pants. An F10 550xi M sport with DCT could be a candidate for the best all around car in the world irrespective of price.

Happy New Year.
DRP
DRP, I thought of you when I saw the post on BMW Blog as I know you've consistently maintained that BMW should offer the M-Sport here too. It is indeed good news that they're listening to their enthusiast owners. That said, I read the report again and I fear you are right - you are indeed stuck with ARS if you get an E60 with the new ZMP option. I'm not sure much difference ARS makes with the M-Sport, but it might be nice to have the option to delete ARS for those who might prefer one with traditional anti-roll bars. I always loved ARS on my 550, but I agree it can feel a little artificial at times.

FYI, here's the BMW release confirming what you suspected:

I wonder whether the 550i with the M-Sport package will be distinguished in any way from the 528i/535i? A dual split exhaust a la the 330i sport would be a nice touch.

The recession helps this decision. I wish they had done this with the 2008 LCI. What a sweet deal.
No kidding - I wish I had that on my Xi!

Interesting but not surprising how many people here would rather have M-sport package than the V8. Style over substance in my option. Now the m-sport WITH the V8...now you're talking.

What's with the 18" 135 M wheels? I guess the 550i still has the wheel advantage...and the purr of 8 cylinders.

Looks like it.
In Europe the M-Sport pack is the same as is going to be offered in the US, i.e. including the 18" M135 wheels as standard, however in Europe we also get the option to upgrade the M-Sport pack to include the 19" M172 wheels. It would appear, you can only order the M172 wheels with the 550i Sport in the US.

I guess it will come down to asking your local dealer to swap the rims out for you? Its a factory option in Europe, so it shouldn't be too difficult for them to order

According to BMW Blog, BMW NA has decided (finally) to make the M-Sport packages available on all US models.

Details for the E60 are below (per BMW Blog)

Means one of the advantages that the 550i had over the 535 has gone...

Additional options for the BMW 5 Series (excluding 550i and M5):

* Anthracite Headliner (thats interesting) * Multi-contour seats (already there )
* Shadowline Trim(already there
* M Sport Suspension (RWD only) (is it same as sport suspension?)
* Active Roll Stabilization (RWD only) (already available with sport package)
* 18″ M wheels Style 135 M (available with style 124)
* Carbon Black Metallic color can be ordered with the M Sport Package

The M Sport Package for the 528i and 535i has a price tag of $4,500 while the package for the 528xi, 535xi and 535xi Sport Wagon is valued at $3,000.

M-Sport suspension is different to the regular sport suspension. In addition, the M-Sport gets the following:

* M door sills
* M footrest
* M gearshift lever
* M steering wheel
* M wheels
* Available with an M exterior color
* Anthracite Headliner (not available for convertibles)
* Aerodynamic package

well i feel like putting this on 535i is like "wanna be m5 ".....
i like the idea of suspension and head linear but not those footrest, door sills, steering wheel with just m logo on......

confusing part is why they mentioned convertibles on headliner since e60 is only available in non convertible...
and what is m gearshift lever? are they refering to peddle shifter? which already available...
M wheels is 19 inches and not 18....

i feel like bmw is trying to sell this car to maake it look special edition package before they bring f10... like how they did with 3series

The M-Sport package is also available on the 1 series, hence the convertible reference. For the US, only the 1 and the 5 series have the option right now, the ZMP package is being rolled out to other models during 2009.

Quick Reply: M-Sport available on all US models
