My 2006 E60 MASK screen just went black but the radio still plays as well as the CD. I notice there's still power into the screen every time I start the car as it flashes and then go into black and still shows image of my backup camera whenever I shift to reverse.

What could the problem and how to fix it?

Its most likely that your backup camera is 3rd party and a small module switches between the rear camera and the MASK video signal. Maybe a bad cable, or not plugged in correctly. Or maybe that module that switches between signals (camera, mask signal) is malfunctioning. I'd say first step is finding that module and plugging in the mask unit directly. That should tell you if the problem is from module.

could be bad screen (cheapest and easiest)
could be bad mask unit (yes it happens even though as you mentioned music is playing)
this last one is tricky could be your mpm module on its way out its this little white box ish module under your spare in the trunk(happened to me)


and thats under the assumption that you already checked all possible fuses that is

Thanks. I manage to check the wires for cid nd its back on now. However the mask is now very unstable. Could it be the CAN as i jsut retrofit comfort seat and connect additional stuff to can wires at the SZL
