Thumbs up

My low coolant light came on this mornning. I opened the hood and checked the coolant level, and it was very low. NOT DRY. So I added. when I started the car, i went to the exhaust put my hand in front of it, and was smelling for any odor of anti-freeze. there was non. I was driving the car hard last night, but no warning signs came on. After racing with the maserati, i did a system check and everything was said to bo " OK" The ground was dry this mornning also as well. Can anyone help explain this situation.....The engin bay was dry as well, because I was checking for bad seals, but nothing.

Not be flippant about the message but every BMW I've owned would do that in the fall as the weather got cooler, unless you check it regularly. If it's a one time event I wouldn't worry too much but, if you can, check the oil to be sure. I've been expecting my low coolant light within the next month.

I had the same thing happen on labor day while I was out of town. I checked it and it was very low. I went to the local walmart and picked up some pre-mixed coolant and added some. I talked to my SA this week and he said not to worry about it but bring it by for a top off and a check. I did that yesterday.

It has happened to me twice in the three years I have owned it. The dealer said it was normal evaporation.

I do not want to warn you but I had the same thing in Europe with a 535D (i know it is diesel) and it was the water pump leaking through the bearings. If you notice some white spots spayed all around be the top of the engine be cautious.

I say take it in, the tech should do a pressure test on your cooling system and if there is a leak they should be able to find it.

Yes, they did this both times on mine and found no leaks. Better safe than sorry.

I took mine into the dealer on Saturday morning. Warning re: Low Coolant appeared on AM startup, but not thereafter. Pressure test showed no leaks...coolant added...in and out in 15 minutes. Thank you Herb Chambers.

Same thing happened to me today

Of course it finally just got cool around here and I have been leaving the car out in the drive instead of pulling it in the garage.

Thanks again all!
