My Ride: 2008 Sapphire Black on Black M5 - loaded sans soft close doors
Been having a bit of trouble getting the car to lock with comfort access of late. This morning after starting the car, I got the warning message on the dash that showed a low battery level on the key fob.
I know the battery is replaceable my question is two fold...
1. Should dealers change this as part of normal service? (just had the Initial service done and they obviously did not do this)
2. Is there a charge for this provided the car is under warranty?
In the meantime, I've gone to using the other key fob.

My Ride: E46 330, E60 550 on order: Carbon Black/Natural Brown, 6MT.
I don't think they preemptively change it, but I seem to recall that some dealers will change it for you for no charge. You can probably pick up a battery at the local drugstore for under $5, so it might not be worth the hassle.

The battery in the comfort access fob is easily replaceable by the end user. I think it likely uses standard button cell batteries so you should have no trouble getting new ones at any hardware store, etc.
I suppose you could ask the dealer about doing it under warranty but I think it'll cost next to nothing to do by yourself...

You just have to buy a CR2032 battery. Easy to change.
