Lopsided HUD on my 2008 520D
Hi guys,
I have recently brought a 2008 520d and discovered the HUD is showing the image lopsided (up-side-down). Took it to the dealership and they quoted me $7,000 AUD which about 1/3 of what I paid for the car. So naturally I declined the offer but had to pay $240 AUD for the inspection.
I have found some workshop manual that made reference to this lopsided HUD problem but could not find the actual solution. Does anyone out there know how to fix this?
Thank you. This is my first BMW and off to a rocky start I guess.
Eric

so here's what I have tried so far,
resetting the iDrive by pressing (audio) power, eject, and eject,
resetting the HUD by unlock with the sum of last 5 VIN digits, then selecting RESET,
adjusting the HUD display from behind the iDrive screen (soft shaft tube).
Nothing has worked to correct the lopsided HUD.

If, as you say the image is uʍop ǝpᴉsdn ʎlǝʇǝldɯoɔ, at a guess I'd say the video image that's projected has flipped due to an electronic failure of the image driver. Whether it uses an LCD as the image source or a CRT, it's down to the internal electronics of the display or more likely the driver itself. Obviously the stealer has no way to troubleshoot down to subcomponents within major assemblies to they just quote you to replace the entire thing. Now, as for how to fix it? I haven't the foggiest.
