I was just reading some information on the E32 750i with the V12 engine that produced 300hp. What a ways we have come to the point now bmw has I6 engines producing 333hp in the old m3 and now 300hp in a I6 TT. Even cadillac has a NA v6 producing 305 hp.
What does that say when even a V12 was not producing as much power as these 6 cylinder cars. Technology is amazing.
A BMW 535dA gives 580 Nm and 286 hp from a 3.0 liter L6 diesel.

0 - 60 in about 6 seconds but still the MPG is above 40.

New engine tech is really amazing.

It's not the number of Cylinders that matters, it's the displacement. You could have a 4 litre V12 and a 5.0L V8 that would stomp it. If I recall correctly, a lot of the old Jags that had V12 had pistons that were the size of half-dollars (exaggeration here), while a Corvette V8 has pistons like dinner plates. The only thing the V12 gives you in that case is a smoother idle.
