That's like saying that DVD audio bulds the stereo in the Acura TL.? Panasonic makes the stereo, but it uses DVD audio technology.

They said that Dolby Pro Logic is the manufacturer of the Volvo system.? Dolby Pro Logic is a technology, not a manufacturer.

Could Dolby Laboratories be making their hardware? They do have a European presence now. While they do mostly research, I do know they make some things, such as processors, but I just don't know if they do any systems, auto or otherwise.

Just listen to someone elses car stereo to appreciate the Logic7. Sure it is possible to get better sound in an automobile, but compared to most factory systems the Logic7 Premium Audio set up kicks ass. Especially if you use the equalizer to adjust your frequency settings. I have a 3 series loaner while my car is in service and its stereo is really pitiful.

This is all so subjective though - one can probably say a sound system is REALLY crap, but over and above that, taste is so individual. I really love the sound in my E39 STANDARD sound system. For what it's worth - I didn't go for Logic 7 as I belive that the DSP processor must add noise of some sort, and I actually prefer a natural soundstage.

the following is what listed in their website. only $970 to add this option.

320 Entertainment Package
What could be more in tune with the times than your favorite music? The harman/kardon Logic 7 premium sound system specially designed for the E-Class "listens" to the sound in the cabin and compensates for unwanted noise automatically.

Its 12 speaker array includes dual surround speakers and a subwoofer. The system features multichannel digital surround-sound technology developed for the professional recording industry, to provide a natural and realistic sound stage. Digital Dynamic Volume Control helps preserve the sound balance under all driving conditions.

An integrated single-feed 6 disc CD changer fits neatly into your dash and enables you to listen to your favorite CDs on this premium entertainment system.

No. Mercedes just charges more for the standard.

I looked at buying an E500 before getting my 545.

It would have been $10,000 more to get an equally optioned E500 than it was to get my 545.

That's a lot of money just to have a peace symbol on the hood.

agreed MB is overpriced, but honestly speaking, BMW is ripping us off here.... they now offer Logic 7 as standard on the E90 330i, so you wind up paying $1800 for a cd changer in the 5 or 6 for that matter...

This is a fascinating discussion.....I had the "Premium" sound system in my 2002 540i, and opted NOT to get the L7 in my (arriving next week) 545. I took the time to compare the stock vs L7 systems, and didn't feel it was remotely worth $1800, especially since I don't play CDs. The stock E60 system sounded as good to me as the premium E39 system. I guess maybe I think of music more as background, especially while driving, and wait to get home to really concentrate on listening to music. I am especially amazed at people who will spend $10K plus on a car stereo, if I had that much extra I would be considering an M5....btw, for reference, I am 45, and I am a "reformed" (Linn Sondek and all that $$$) audiophile.
