The E60 is build like a medieval fortress. I can blast my 2000 watt subwoofer and not much leaks outside that car aside from rattles. Your average SUV can be heard down the block with just a few hundred watts going to a sub because of the lack of sound-deadening, in contrast.

I find this untrue.

I can hear far more sound of my factory Logic 7 from outside the car than the 1800 Watt system that was in my Lexus RX-300.

The E60 has VERY poor acoustic damping.

Well, I now have 100+ sq ft of Dynamat Extreme in the car (trunk and doors), so perhaps that makes a difference. But really, I can have power tools chugging away in my garage, I get in the E60, close the doors, can't hear a darned thing.

I like the logic 7 system, but it does need to be tuned to the ears of the listener.
Setup is important IMO...it was very bass driven when i picked it up from the dealer, however after playing with the settings on the EQ (V formation) and fader (bias two clicks rear of central), and reducing the bass to a quarter(approx two/three clicks right of centre) I feel I have base that kicks when it needs to with clear and crisp mids and highs, these not ever having been a problem.
My MP 3 sources are via single CD and IPAQ 4150 with conduit palm player. Cant comment on the sound outside, if its sounds as good as it does inside the car I dont mind sharing

noooooot! I would want that more. More vibration in the seats please!!! . I can hardly tell i have 2 subs under my seats

And form the outside only the bass leaks. From certain positions sounds good, like a powerfull subwoofer sound, but not disturbing....but from the sides of the car the bass starts to brake and sounds like a cheap, weak sub.

Dynamat makes a difference... but mostly from metallic rattles that create noise of their own whenbass rumbles them.

The best way to contain audio system noise inside the car is to build all interior speaks with their own fiberglassed and carpeted speaker enclosures. The Dynaudio speakers in my Lexus had this done. I had 7" woofers in the factory door locations, but they were in sealed enclosures which helped contain the sound from leaking outside the car through the door cavity.

Plus... a Lexus is just a FAR better designed car when it comes to acoustic dampening... since that is the company's primary focus in all their designs.

I wonder if I should consider building sealed enclosures behind the mids and woofers in my front doors (I assume one doesn't do this for tweeters). I assume most components are designed to function optimally in an IB configuration because that's how most people install them, right?
