My Ride: 535d Touring M - Carbon black
Default

I've just had two wheels stolen from my car (535d touring) last night while it was parked right outside my house. They were 18" M Sport alloys (135). I've only had the car six weeks and managed to drive 250 miles......! Initially I thought that I would just have to replace the wheels but it looks like the sill is badly damaged where they jacked it up and there are a few scratches along the side.

TOTALLY GUTTED......

The car was fitted with BMW locking wheelnuts but it looks like these are useless as the theives obviously have the keys. Looks like the anti-tilt alarm isn't much use either.

So I'm looking out for any recommendations anybody might have about locking wheelnuts. Will probably look to fit two or three different types to each wheel.

Any suggestions welcome. In the meantime I'll keep a look out on Ebay for my wheels.

I must admit the OEM locking nuts don't look great! I'm pretty sure a 'master' key would be available - at least enough to get purchase on the nut.

However, it's your chance to replace the wheels with something 'nicer' with non-Runflats! (19" 172's?)

Thanks guys, here is the wheel bolt test mentioned in the above post. http://www.autoexpress.co.uk/carreviews/pr...heel_bolts.html

Looks like it could be money well spent

man that sucks. Sorry to hear. Ya go buy like 4 different brands and kinds and slap it all around. They'll need 4 master keys to steal those puppies!

I am really sorry for your loss. I asked my tire/wheel shop about wheel locks and he said that he had not heard of a set of wheels being stolen in close to 20 years. I wonder if it's just as rare in the UK.

That's aweful. I asked my wheel guy if he recommended locking bolts, but he said no. He said basically all they do is slow down thieves a bit, and he pointed out that they are more likely to just take the whole car, anyway.
Sucks. Will your insurance help?

Very common in UK. We have had instances of 12 cars being targeted in a 5 mile radius in one night at times.

UK = Car crime capital of the world !
