Hi all -

Quick n00b question, where is the location of the MAF sensor? I am attaching a picture of what my car looks like under the hood so even if you can tell me, look at the top right below the <something>, that'll help. If you can poing it with an arrow, that would be awesome.

The car is a 535xi and I am aiming to clean the MAF sensor.

Thanks.

This has helped me immensely in locating various components of the vehicle. If you know the engine type (I can't tell from the picture as I'm not that knowledgeable). As a rule of thumb, it will be after the air box. The MAF senses the quality/amount of air going for combustion. So follow that and you should be able to find it.

In the WDS, I went to Comoponent&signal>Components>B_Sensors>and then type of your engine.

Pretty sure its on the main airduct into the airbox... it is on mine. Check realoem.com as well. Once you put your vehicle year and model info in it will give you a blown up parts diagram of where it all goes...

Yep it is on the airduct tube right before the throttle body, you will more than likely have to remove your stock air filter box to see it properly.

Yes, but you have to be real real careful not to touch the sensor itself and to use only MAF cleaner, although I think people have used other things... Its cheap enough at an auto parts store not to risk anything else.

here's my DIY to remove the stock air box, you'll better see and most likely find the MAF sensor once removed....removing the air box is very simple as well..

Hi all -

Updates:
1. The N54 engine does not have a MAF sensor. It has a MAP sensor, confirmed by realoem and other 3-series and 1-series forums.
2. It is located where I have indicated with an arrow.
3. Can be cleaned similarly. Mine looked pretty dirty.

Hope others here will benefit from this in the future.

If you are interested in the engine, it is #8 on page 8 (http://www.1addicts....oryou/n54-2.pdf)

Thanks for the support on this forum - I have never been so close the engine ever

Are you sure? I think all cars have a MAFS brother. Do you have turbo then?
