If you are fine with the power, go with the 530 and the options you want. Otherwise you are always going to be thinking "man, I wish I had Comfort Access" or "Damn, Nav would be nice now".
I looked at a stripped M5 and the thought of not having things like Comfort Access or HUD (required on the M5 IMHO) really made me sure that the 550, equipped JUST the way I wanted was the right decision.

I've just ordered a car and it was tough to decide on options. However, the bare bones were not. The bones are the V8 and sports package. Anyone and everyone can argue about the rest. The inline 6 is very nice, but the mid 6's in a 0-60 sprint is becoming average nowadays. And there is likely a 535 waiting in the wings. The 8 is simply a screamer and the wider rears of the sports package are killer.
As someone posted, a lightly optioned 550 is a not stripper as you get a number of standard options. Maybe 4K more all told. Premium sound might be the first option besides sport package to get. Good luck because it was hell to choose the other options. But get the sports package.

Would you guys choose a loaded 530i or a bare 550i? Lets say that becuase there are some must have options on the 550i, the 550i is still more expensive by a few grand.

My Ride: 2013 535i (White with Oyster Interior. Premium Package, Navigation, Technology Pacakge, Park Distance Control, and Rear View Camera)
After 4 months of driving my 530, I still ask the same question to myself everyday.
Should I get 545 (it was 545 that time) for around 8k more. The only answer that makes me feel a little bit better is if I bought a 545 and find out the model change to 550 in a month, I will be so pixxoff.
