When I got my car a few weeks ago, the light switch was pushed in, which didn't seem right, so I pulled it and it came out, which it did with a click. It will click in and out as if designed to move in this way, with definite detents. I can't see that it does anything though- any ideas? Pictures of the 2 positions should be attached.

Andy.

This is a well know 'feature' which actually does nothing. Its simply there to take a knock without breaking.

It could also be that BMW reuse parts across models and in our cars that action doesn't have a function associated with it. I'll be able to confirm in a few days because I'm about to dive into a lights switch that I bought as a spare.

Ya that "feature" pretty much does nothing... some people like it in some like it out. I like it out. When the board first found out this "feature" some thought it was made to pop in so in case of a accident and your knees hit it, it'll go in and not break your knee cap.

I've had this before too. Not a problem at all, and it's down to your preference.
