Hi everyone

does anyone know when the light magnezium alloy block petrol engine was introduced by BMW in the E60 and what is the engine code?

Its a magnesium outer case with a aluminium inner piece

Its the N52

Think E60 got it March 2005

It began with March 05 production for the E60. If you count the E63 as part of the family, it was the initial car the engine debuted in back in 2004. Engine code is N52 with some other characters depending on the displacement and output.

The older R6 engine was coded M54.


The new one is N52, and the codes outside US are:
N52B23 (523i), N52B25 (525i) and N52B30 (530i).


Do anyone know if the improved (facelift) 3.0 litre 272 hp will be called N52B30TU?


The new bi-turbo is a N54!

They are no longer using the TU designation, because of multiple levels of output from the same engine for different models

Th new high output one used in the facelift X3 is known as the N52B30O1, a slightly lower output versions ( about 230hp) is known as the N52B30M1

The uprated engines are also known as the N52KP and include a number of changes over the N52

We have it in the 530D since 11/2005 ... (not the 535D, which is 75kg heavier !!)
