I've noticed one of the left tail lights is dimmer than the one on the right. I've swapped bulbs and such, but it's still the same. Is this normal?

When removing the bulb housing and looking at them, this particular bulb on both sides is rather dim, with the right side being only slightly brighter.

And I've tried putting the stock license plate bulbs back in, thinking that maybe the LEDs were drawing more power or something, but the result was the same.

See picture.

Most likely a bad ground or contact. I would check voltage and ground at the bulb.

Are your fog lights on? I believe that BMW's have one bright tail light when the fogs are on, helps with visibility from the rear when in foggy conditions.

We don't have button to enable rear fogs for US E60s.

Okay, thanks guys. It's still under warranty / maintenance so I'll just have them look at it the next time it needs maintenance.

i've seen this on a friend's car where his one rear turn signal was dimmer than the other. changing bulbs didnt fix. if i remember right, the inner wiring connector on the light was creating extra resistance due to slight corrosion or something. ended up just sliding the connector on and off several times and it fixed the problem.
