Hi,I recently found the right side front fog light is not working. The bulb itself is fine and the two power wires got no power on it. I am suspecting the Light Control Module problem. Would someone tell me the loaction of LCM and any diagram of it? Thanks

When you checked for voltage, did you check the wires or the bulb holder? |
:nono: ... uhhh no! ... there's nothing behind the dash light switch (beside a small wiring loom for the light switch and bunch of dash foam). :rolleyes:
The actual location of the LCM is behind the sidekick panel slightly above the footrest by the driver side ...

I've recently found out that the LCM will shut down a line in case of short circuit. Using DIS or INPA you can see if the error condition is present on the LMA.
See text below. " Description of dealing with short circuits: If a short circuit is detected in a power circuit, this power circuit is switched off after one minute. This power circuit remains switched off until there has been a terminal change (terminal 15 > terminal 30 -> terminal 15). A renewed attempt to switch on is only made after a terminal change. The control module permanently switches off the corresponding output if a total of 10 terminal changes have taken place while there is a short circuit in a power circuit. After repairing the short circuit, the output is reactivated using a diagnosis command in the test module. If the short circuit is still present, the output is switched off permanently after another 10 terminal changes. Exception: xenon lamps: If the short circuit in the circuit of a xenon lamp is still present, the output is switched off again permanently after 4 terminal changes. An output can be reactivated 5 times by a diagnosis command in the test module. The footwell module permanently switches off the corresponding output if a total of 60 terminal changes have taken place while there is a short circuit in the power circuit. Exception: xenon lamps: A xenon output can be reactivated 5 times by a diagnosis command in the test module. The footwell module permanently switches off the corresponding output if a total of 24 terminal changes have taken place while there is a short circuit in the power circuit The output cannot be reactivated even with the diagnosis command and the fault memory entry can no longer be deleted. In this case, the module must be replaced. " The text below is for a FRM in an E90 but I'm sure this is the same procedure for the E60 as well. " - Connect cable to your car, launch Toolset32 and load FRM70.prg (for FRM2). - In the window called Select job: FRM_70, select the job status_lampen_kurzschluss_counter. In the list Results select job_status and the lamp output which is shut off due to short circuit protection. - Send the job to the car using the F5 key. You should get an answer in the Results window and the COUNTER value should be > 0. If COUNTER is = 0 then you didn't select the right lamp output. Try finding the one(s) which have COUNTER > 0. You will look at this value later to see if the short circuit reset-job actually worked. - Now, switch job to steuern_reset_kurzschlussabschaltung. Notice that this job requires one (1) argument: lamp_nr. Lamp_nr is a number 0-255. Enter the lamp_nr to clear in the Arguments list and select job_status under Results. - Send the job using F5. Make sure you get an answer OKAY in the Results window. Note: I don't know the mapping between each lamp and lamp_nr, so I simply sent the command 64 times for all lamp_nr from 0 to 63. Try this - I guess it can't do any harm. Since lamp_nr is supposed to be an integer, I guess possible values for lamp_nr are 0-255. When you have sent kurzschlussabschaltung-commands for all lamp_nr, do the first job again (check COUNTER). If everything is good, the counters which were > 0 before should now be = 0. Also, I see there are two jobs which are named quite similar - steuern_lampen_kurzschlussabschaltung and _reset_kurzschluss_sperre. I don't know the difference between these two, but if one doesn't clear your counters, I would try the other one too. Both jobs require the lamp_nr-argument. " |

I know this is an old topic, but I wanted to thank you. I already searched the world wide web for hours, and I couldn't find how to reset my lcm. I just bought this second hand (well, probably fourth hand) 2005 e60 530d, with broken halo rings (parking lights), expecting to replace them and voila, it's working again. Well. NOT. I searched the web a lot, and found a few possible solutions (like disconnecting the lcm for about an hour). But nothing worked. But now I found your post, and it worked like a charm. In the last step, I had to use reset_kurzschluss_sperre, because there was no job steuern_reset_kurzschlussabschaltung, but it worked! So now my car doesn't report any issues anymore, and the lights are working. Metsie |
What program would I need and what connection do I need to the car?
My halos(angel eyes) are out. Both left and right. I hope this can fix it. There is no power going to them, checked it with a meter... Thanks |

afaik tool32 is the only application that can clear short circuit codes that store permanently...
are you sure you're using it properly? |
