my car is a 2005 545i and almost every other day this code comes up. I checked it with a generic scanner so the wording might not be as exact as BMW but the code is P0444. Has anyone had this code before? any common problem? thanks for any info.

I had a CEL come up 2 months ago, brought to the dealer and they told me it was a gas cap not tightend. They cleared the code and in one week the CEL came back! I bought a obd II reader and if i remember, p0440 came out. Something about a purge valve as well? I bought a new gas cap and the CEL did not go away. I mess around putting back the charcol filter (i did that charcol filter delete DIY) and the CEL instantly turned off! I have a K&N filter as well, which i oiled from a previous cleaning. Apperantly that got my MAF dirty, cleaned that up and the CEL never came back.

Its an emmisions code, more likly that sounds like a loose gas cap, i just wanted to share my story because i know how frustrating it can be to have those CEL continously come up!

well its not a loose gas cap cause i tried that a few times, i havent replaced it cause i doubt it will do anything...im a honda mechanic and i hate doing any evap codes on them in the dealer, so one a BMW cannot be that much fun. Im gonna check that charcoal filter, maybe previous owner did that DIY and thats the reason. thanks for you info.

This problem was fixed. I first replaced the fuel cap and the code came back on within a day or two. It Ended up being a fuel tank breather valve. It's located right under the throttle body. Just removed the engine cover and the air intake duct and it was connected to two different hoses and is clipped on. 5 install.

Hello Evo!
I was wondering if the evap system purge valve is also called the fuel tank breather valve? I am having a very hard time finding this part online, because I don't know what it looks like. I have a 2004 530i
Thanks a lot.

Default Fuel Tank Breather Valve replacement video

Yes. The problem is the Fuel Tank Breather Valve. Here's a video on replacing it.
