The right rear taillight on my '09 535 is kind of having fits. I randomly get a taillight malfuntion message and then it goes away. It also occasionally happens when I hit the right blinker or reverse. Noticed that when I hit the fob and the lights come on that the right taillight is sometimes dim, flickering or out completely. Other times it's perfectly fine. Up to this point it has always gone away, but it's getting more frequent though. I having the 6W AE kit, LED side markers and LED license plate lights all from Trinity. I'm pretty certain that's not the cause, but thought I'd mention it just in case anyone has experienced this. Probably gonna just take it in since it's still under warranty but I may uninstall the light kits since I don't want them to tell me that it's because I put these light kits on it. Thought I'd ask here first to see if anyone had any ideas before I go to that trouble.

Is it just your right side? You might want to check the connectors. Recently a member discovered that his harness melted somehow. From what you're describing it could very well be something similar with the connections failing.

Yeah it's only the right side. Checking the connection was gonna be my next move.

So curiosity got the best of me and I checked the plug. Looked ok at first glance but when I unplugged it one of the pins was broken off inside the taillight and stuck in there. It could have been melted in there but it was tight quarters and kind of dark and and hard to really tell. Worried that I'd cause more damage, I plugged it back in. I obviously need to take it in to the dealer since it's still under warranty. The next question is do I need to take off the previous lighting mods even though they technically have nothing to do with the taillights? I just don't want to get in there and have them tell me it's my fault and try to charge me for it.

Honestly, it depends on your dealership. The other lighting stuff you've done obviously had nothing to do with your taillights, but if the person you are dealing with at the dealership is a dickhead, s/he could give you a hard time.
