Smile LCI e60 parking light rings are too dim.

So I really love how the parking lights of my LCI e60 look during the night and when you unlock the car and it slowly turns on. It looks absolutely amazing but its a bit too dime to be able to be seen during the day. Is there anyway to make them brighter (mods, settings, different lights) except i want to keep the way it looks and the colour, I dont want white l.e.ds im quite found of the warm yellowish colour of the rings. I have seen 3 (e90 sedan) series rings to be quite brighter during the day.

It's important not to mix up DRL (day running light) and Parking Light (SL).
In E60/61 LCI the rings are fed by the same H8 bulb.
It's driven by the light module (LM2) and dimmed with PWM (puls width modulation).

For each DRL and SL there is a PWM-parameter in LM2 which adjusts the voltage.
You need coding equipment to do this.

For DRL use parameter PWM_PIN_11_63_33
wert_01 = 13,2V
wert_02 = aus
wert_03 = 12,2V = Standard DRL
wert_04 = 13,0V
wert_05 = 100%
wert_06 = 12,7V


For parking lights use parameter PWM_AN_SL_V_AL_1_34
wert_01 13,2v
wert_02 aus
wert_03 13,0v
wert_04 13,2v
wert_05 7,7v
wert_06 7,2v = Standard
wert_07 13,0v
wert_08 12,7v

If you like the color, just get brighter amber led bulbs in h8.

I didnt think there was a differences between the two. I have my lights in automatic and during the day it turns the rings on which can hardly be seen and low beams. Perhaps my car isnt equiped with day time running lights? Thou in the menu i have selected day time running lights. Is day time running lights an optional extra?

So if it just needs a coding, im confused why the car didnt come with this? I will try provide some pics when I get the time tomorrow.

If your car is produced after 03/2007 it's an LCI (facelift).
H8 bulbs with DRL are used in all LCI xenon headlights.
But not in halogen headlights. Halogen headlights use a much smaller bulb and do not have DRL.

I'm sorry, all the things I mentioned above are only for xenon headlights.
In case of xenon your light module switches (/ dimms) brightness of the H8-bulb automatically.

If the headlight switch is in position "auto" or "off" the light module always switches on DRL (high voltage on H8 bulbs) if DRL is activated in i-drive.
If the light switch is in other position or the headlights are turned on automatically, the H8 bulbs are dimmed to "parking lights".

This is because DRL is too bright at night. So it's dimmed to parking light if headlights are turned on.

With halogen headlights the (h8) DRL output of the light Module drives a much smaller bulb for the rings.
Both parameters above are set to 12,2V so the brightness of the rings is the same in all cases except "off".

All headlights (halogen/xenon) of the PFL (pre facelift, all Models up to 02/2007) do not have real DRL. It's nearly equal to LCI halogen.
If DRL ist set in i-drive they only turn on headlights.

If you see Daytime Running Lamps in your menu then your car is a face-lifted LCI (life-cycle improvement) model. LCI is simply a fancy word for some cosmetic upgrades BMW made to the 5-series after a few years of production.
You can adjust the voltage as mentioned above but I am not sure how to do that. I purchased aftermarket daytime running lamps for my e60 535i which I love - however, mine are LED's (light blue color).
The DRL's are commonly referred to as angel eyes. If you opt for an aftermarket set of angel eyes make sure they are Plug & Play otherwise you'd have to get them professionally installed, which can be expensive.

I have a 2009 LCI E60 you can change your daytime running lights to off low beam or high beam and you can have the rings on separately I know this is old thread but anybody still needs it you can accomplish this with coding I use a Carly but it's pretty cool you can change your daytime running light from the high beam to the low beam or not have them at all if you don't want them and then once you're in the iDrive you can turn them on and off from whichever setting you've chosen of the three
