Since the F10 is rumored to arrive some time next year, will that make the '08/'09 5-series a bit of a collectable? Considering that the LCI will have only been around for just two models, what are the chances that it'll hold it's value more than other 5s?

I'm certain it will NOT be a collectors car - there are just too many around...
the chance, E65 7-series with that big bulge Bangle butt might be a better candidate for colletable.
in 20 years people will relaize that Chris Bangle is a genius after all, he starts the trend of big ugly butt on saloon luxury cars, even the new LS460, Benz S have them now.

Ya it prob wont be... it has nothing special to it... its not the first 5 series ever made... its not the last... it wont have anything special that future 5s wont have... it'll be like the E28 E34 E39... another 5er... Even the E28 M5 or E30 M3 hasnt really reached "collector" status Possibly... the 1er you'll have a better chance... since its the first year re-introduction....

The LCI 550 Sports will probably demand a premium as they age over other 550s/545s, like the ZHP E46 330s did/do or the ZCP M3s do, but over time it will be de minimus compared to other 550s.

M5 yes
520-550 no
In Germany the "polution" discussion is killing of the young-timer market, which in turn means many of them just get scrapped and can't make it through to Classic status. This is why in my mind the normal E60s (not M5) will not make it -- the M5 is maybe exclusive enough to survive... assuming there's still enough fuel to run it!

Yeah. That's why I put "collector" in quotes. I know people won't be mortgaging their homes to pay ridiculous prices for them. I'm curious if they will hold more relative value than other E60 5s based on their upgrades and independent of their being newer models. The interior is both subtly and significantly different from the '04-'07 E60s. And I had never really paid it much attention, but as I was putting out the trash this morning, I had the car running to warm up a bit. It was dark outside and in the garage, and I noticed that the taillights are remarkably different from the non-LCI cars. It's an interesting look. Of course, I already knew about the light tubes and such back there, but I had never realized how different they look from non-LCI cars. How would I? I'm never back there, and I've only seen maybe 3 other LCIs so far.

The e39 still feels like a classic to me but somehow I never have had the feeling that the e60 is or will be a classic , maybe the M5 like all m5s though............

Most BMWs go through a mid life refresh (LCI) so there's nothing unique about the LCI E60. Yes, it does look better IMO just as when they refreshed the E39 and gave them things like clear turn signals in the rear. It definitely freshened up the look. But that won't give them "collectors" status. They may have better resale value because they are newer and arguably better looking than the older E60s.

In the latest issue of the Roundel, if I am not mistaken, shows a list of which BMW are collectibles and still hold a high price tag.
In 20 years, will they still have parts to maintain the computers and electronics of our E60s? We will see.....
I also have a an '89 325ix that is 19 years old and it is still going, very basic and simple.
