I did the rear left on mine a few weeks back to fix the window regulator.
Just followed the TIS online manual (cant find the link right now) - was pretty easy. I have a set of blue plastic trim tools to pry things from the door frame - they are invaluable.
One thing to look out for are the two (i think) black screw covers you need to pop off first. I damaged mine removing them so I will replace them some time.
Also the wood trim does not come off. It stays with the door panel/card.
Is this a front or rear?

Never tried.
There is a youtube of a guy removing the door panel where he says it will break if you try to pull it off.
Maybe its glued on or something?

Are you sure they are washers and not plastic welds? I haven't actually seen it though. I did have a spare trim piece from LCI a couple years back and thought I remember seeing small nuts to hold it. Take a picture of what you have.

I will try to figure out how to add a picture. They were easy to pry out with a hook and screw driver. I am now a master at door panel removal!

I found those little bastards on real OEM:
RealOEM.com BMW E60N 535xi Door trim panel, front / side airbag
It is actually a good idea, allows the wood to flex a bit but still be secured...
Axial securing clip-- 52207115704
