In the German morning news today (ARD) there was a very interesting programme on German auto market competition among Audi, MB and BMW.
And there was this BMW's chief marketing manager who announced that based on their recent market research (internal one and also the one recently published by the KPMG) it is no longer financially reasonable to keep the 7-years model production process and in order to stay competitive with new A6 and E-class both soon to be marketed, BMW board officially decided to go on with new 5-series faster than anticipated.
He was explaining that the car is actually at the final testing phase now and basically they should be ready to launch production in less than 8 months. And he officially revealed that car will be presented in September 2008. The first official pictures of the all new 5-series however should be presented at the press conference in May.

just spreading out the good morning news

It's good and bad.
Good because all the deals on the new LCI models yes, but it sucks, becaue the value of the E60 model now, will drop drastically, and there goes getting a decent price for trade in or private sales.

Well, I had been looking forward to getting the new F10 in the fall of 2010 when my current lease expired, despite concern about what was expected to be the first year of the new model. It now appears (if this story is true!) that I will be getting second year car. All the better as hopefully many of the new model bugs will have been worked out!
