Dose anyone have a clue as to why all of a sudden when I drive in the rain my back passenger side floor gets a bunch of water in it? Is there a panel of sometnhing missing? Anyone else experience this? Thanks.

 

oh may be you can ask someone to sit at the back and observe next time when it rains? haven't heard of this before.

 

You must have the birdbath package on your car and just dont know it.

 

Thats real cute. At first I thought it was from a water bottle that I had on the back floor that had leaked out. I drove in the rain yesterday and once again it was soaked.

I would employ the help of a friend, get a hose, and sit in the back while they spray certain areas so you can zero in on where the leak is.

 

either way you look at this, you're looking at removing the carpets and definitely lifting the car up. I'd also recommend that you have this problem fixed ASAP, as there's sensitive (read: VERY EXPENSIVE) electronic equipment in the floors of our cars that is just waiting to be fixed by the dealer at some seriously ridiculous prices... catch my drift?

My associates 2002 e39 had this problem, and I've heard of it before.

I *think* what happened was that there are drainholes on the bottom of the door for any rain or moisture that can get in, and they were plugged. Check the bottom edge of the door. Also, I think he had to have the internal panel of the door removed to have a moisture barrier reinstalled. I think that with the drain holes plugged, the water was re-routed to areas of the door that it shouldn't have been.

Not a big deal, but annoying. I don't know why it's the passenger rear door all the time.

Make sure the carpet doesn't get moldy. May want to get some of those moisture absorbing bags that you put in a boat for the winter. Check marine supply.

*edit. Now that I think about it some more, it may have to do with the sunroof drain. I think the sunroof drain tubes go down through there, and drain out the bottom of the rear door. If the holes to drain are plugged, all the water builds up and eventually lets loose into the rear carpet.

I could be wrong, but I think that was it. Do you drive with your sunroof open a lot? (Not when it's raining, of course)

 

I didn't see anyone mention the sunroof drains ... opps someone did ....

they have the potential of getting plugged too. Who knows where the water may end up! Wherever it's coming in from, suck it up with a shop vac and keep it away from very expensive electronics.

I've seen this happen in many cars of all different makes. Sunroof drains can become clogged easily.
