key will lock; unlock, trunk & convenience functions not working

My Ride: 530xi Navi Logic-7 winter-pkg
My key stopped allowing me to unlock the car or open the trunk or use the convenience function of lowering windows.
The lock function works fine, that means the battery in the key is ok.
Is the key malfunctioning or does is need programming?
Any ideas?

I'm currently having the same problems with my key...(only gotten one key when i bought the car)...i'm looking forward for the great respond from you guys in here.... a million thanks in advance

Have you checked the setup through the iDrive?

I had the same thing on my 335. I took it to the dealer and they did an update and changed the remote battery and it worked after that. The weird thing was 1 key worked and the other did what yours was doing

iDrive setup is good, it is intermittent as well.

my key did the same thing...(only got one key when i bought the car) when i took mine to a dealer and they said that it's the key and not the car or the idrive. they told me that it would cost anywhere from $180 or $190 to replace a new key. damn they sure know how to make money

First of all, do you guys have comfort access or not? If you do not have comfort access, then the key's battery recharges itself when it's in the key slot on the steering column. If you do have CA, then the battery does not recharge itself, instead you need to replace it.
If a non-CA key is no longer recharging via the slot, I'd say that the internal battery is spent and the key may need replacing (just like an iPhone or iPod, I suppose...
)
