Hi Guys,

I need some advice on a problem that is doing my brians in.

I have a 2006 535d m Sport in the UK.

Over the last week my key stopped working properly, it works but you have to hold i at funny positions and you must be right next to the car, i've also tested my other key and its exactly the same issue.

Has anyone come accress this before.

My key type is the all in one unit, no key visable.

Thanks guys.

Does this happen everywhere you go (home, work, etc.)?

First thing I'd do is replace the battery in the key. If that doesn't work there may be a problem with the receiver built in the car.

Yea, exactly what I was thinking. Try replacing the battery first. Good luck.

Thanks guys,

will try that but it's happening on both keys which is why i thought its not the key, but willing to try and it sounds like the easy option.

anyone know how to change open the key up, will start searching.

Before you go ripping apart any key fobs, please read the following post to better understand the key battery situation and other details on how this stuff works:

Pay particular attention to the other links in that post dealing with the "diversity antenna". If I were a betting man, that's what I'd put my money on as to what might be wrong with your car...

Yes, that what mine was, the antenna software.

I had it updated by the dealer under warranty.

Both keys only worked when really close up to the vehicle and after the software was updated then the keys worked about 20 or 30 feet away.

I initally thought it would be the batteries in the kety fobs but apparently, it is best that both keys are regulary used as the car charges the keyfob as you are driving along.

That is why it is good to use a spare keyfob every 6 months or so to keep the spare key charged up.
