On the key when you hold down to the BMW Logo arent the lights suupose to turn on to locate your vehicle. Is tihs some kind of pathway lighting system so your lights stay on until you get into the house

Pathway lighting isn't something controlled by the key. When you press the lock button on the remote, the interior lights come on (and the under mirror lights if you have them).
To activate pathway lighting to assist you in getting in the house, you need to pull back on the turn signal stalk (like flashing the beams) while the car is off. That'll light up the headlights for the amount of time you set in iDrive...

Don't forget, when you hold down the 'open' button on the key, it will roll down your windows and open your sunroof as well...Always a good feature when it's hot out and you don't want to get into a blazingly hot car...

Cool - tried this tonight and it worked a treat. Its kinda weird though walking away from the car with the lights on.
