I posed this question in the Detailing forum without much of a response:

What do you recommend for the daily elimination of road grime, dust, pollen, water spots, etc? Isn't there some kind of soft brush that can be used on the finish?

I've never owned a black car before, so your recommendations would be of interest to me.

They get dirty fast but look so good when washed!!!

you have to wash once a week and wax & polish at least every
6 months and a garage helps alot!
Buy different brake pads if you still run oem, it will help save your wheels.

After a while you learn where all the covered parking is too.

california duster....try to keep it dust free as much as possible, because if it gets moist from dew, humidity, rain, it'll become caked on dirt and will need a wash. keep it dust free and a detailing spray here and there will keep it clean between washes....

make sure you learn how to wash/dry it properly in terms of keeping the swirls and marring to a minimum, as they show up exponentially on a black car...

i've owned 3 black cars, when owning them i always wondered why i bought another, but after a wash, i remember why....had a silver one, which was easy to maintain, but didn't have that wow factor a black car does when it's clean....

good luck, it's a part time job, but i still love me a clean black car.....

Make sure you use that duster correctly or you will create tons of swirls and scratches. Nothing you can do except wash, polish and wax. Check out Adam's Polishes web site. Great products and there are instructionial videos too. One forum member is a distributor for them. I'm sure he'll pop in here.

don't ever use a california duster, ever.

most people don't have the patience to polish/detail their cars on their own, so you're best off finding a reputable local detailer that will do it for you with a machine. plus it costs money to buy all of the stuff yourself. i own my own stuff but it's very addicting.

key is, once the car is polished and waxed, it doesn't matter if you wash it once a month or once a day, don't ever, EVER, touch your paint unless you are washing it. scratches and swirls form very easily on paint even by the touch of a finger. this is why the said california duster is a terrible product on paint.

You got right!

I took a perfectly good black car out to the mountains. And got snowed in for a week. That short week driving in the sand covered snow up there just killed the paint.
