Just took my first road trip in the 550i

And as a side note, removed my charcoal filter after returning.
Stats - 2007 6 speed manual sport with 8,000 miles on the clock.
Took a 1,200 mile trip last week with 1,000 miles being highway and 200 around town. When I measured my first mileage reading it was pure highway. The computer said 25.2 mpg with an average speed of 73.4. On my first fill up I took 13.9 gallons for the first 310 miles. On the calculator, this comes to 22.3 mpg for a difference of 2.9 mpg. I did my final check upon returning home where the trip computer said 24.5 mpg overall. I did a total of 1198 miles on 52.9 gallons or 22.6 mpg for a difference of 1.9 mpg. For some reason the gap closed on the total trip vs the highway miles by 1 mpg difference, go figure. Anyway, just thought I would share.
I had my seats and steering wheel adjusted perfectly and it was a very comfortable trip.
ok, back to the charcoal filter. I did some searching last night (couldn't sleep) and found threads on the removal of the filter. It seems simple enough so I decided to look at mine today. On opening the lid, I couldn't see how the filter was held in place so I placed a screwdriver blade under one corner and pried it up so I could get my finger under it. With a gentle pull, I heard a crack as it appeared a plastic tab broke that was holding it in place. I pulled further and tabs started popping all over. It came out with little drama and the only thing I can figure is it wont go back in cuz the tabs appeared to be permanent and not re-usuable. Oh well, no intentions of re-installing anyway.
Drove in the howling rain today but can't say I notice any difference, oh well, cheap mod anyway.
sorry to dribble on over such boring topics but it's raining and I'm stuck in the house.

Thanks for sharing...not a huge difference when compared to a 2.5l engine
