Steptronic owner, just slipped it into DS mode, and I went from 60 mph to 125 mph in a matter of seconds. The Mustang had an inital lead, but as I hit 80 or 90, I was clearly ahead. It was awesome!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I've never beat a Cobra before!! BTW this was also the first time I ever went above 100mph in a new 550i. I had just finished my break in period last week.
Don't know. Someone I know once smoked one in his 85 RX-7, but I think not the really fast kind. The Cobras come in different flavors. For example, there are some naturally aspirated SVT Cobras that were pretty much as fast as the supercharged Cobras of 2003.
Here are the basic data on the very fast naturally aspirated kind from a year 2000 MT test.
"Our acceleration tests revealed steam catapult-like launches with 60 mph arriving in just 4.4 seconds and the quarter taking 12.9 seconds at 110.8 mph. That compares favorably with the Corvette's 4.8-second run to 60 and 13.3 at 108.6 through the quarter mile."
I don't think either of us beat this kind.

This was not a straightline race....more like a Highway 360 race (curvaceous). Even at that we didn't start from a standstill....I was at 60 mph when I floored it, and although he was ahead for a few seconds, I pulled out when we hit 80-90 mph. Maybe even close to 100. Regardless, I couldn't believe I outran a cobra.
And all this in DS mode. I could've been drinking coffee in my other hand if I wanted to!

You're right Ipse. I am pleased to inform you we had no traffic behind or in front of us for at least within a 1 mile radius. You would probalby get along great with my wife. But what a thrill as this is my first racing BMW experience to remember!

Durbina...maybe it was a GT with cobra stickers/hood/rims??? You never know the posers that are alive. Ohh and speaking of posers. Yesterday I saw an E60, black color(sapphire or jet) with NO sport package and 525i stock 17' rims with a 545i badge. Car had MA plates but I forgot what it was and it had no xenon. Why do I know its a 525? Because of the smaller exhaust pipes which are obvious to me. To top it off, he has reflectors as well. Is he on the forum as well?
Either way, glad you love your car....I do too!! 60-155mph acceleration is really unbelievable and smooth too.
