if you lower your steering wheel to the bottom position, let go of the knob, and try it again, it will go down another 1/4" or so. I just discovered this and it's great! Just thought I would let you know (sorry if repost)

Cool. I'll try it. Do both of you own the car?

Znod, didn't you just get a hip replacement. That ought to put you out of commission for several weeks.

i know this trick as i often use it...i think someone has mentioned the same about the length,,, the problem is if u save it to memory it will only go to the botom but not that 1/4' inch extra,,,,kinda sorry it doesnt...was woundering if it was a mechanical problem after they changed my steering rack...seems not...

Someone was actually complaining on the bimmerfest.com about this very thing and thought his steering wheel adjust was broken. Especially since when he set it to a certain position it doesn't go back to the original spot. Furthermore, some people could do this and some couldn't. I tried it out with my new car and I couldn't do it.

I tried this with my "07 530xi and indeed it works. . . . but . . .
When I turn off the car and the steering wheel goes to its rest position I hear a not so pleasant noise as it starts its motion . Almost like it is telling me "I'm not supposed to go that low and I'm not happy about it". Not sure what that is all about. I do like the additional adjustment, which puts the wheel in the perfect position for me, but I don't like the sound.

Check and see if you hear it too.
