Just got back from a road trip, weird whistling noise?
#1
Hey guys, this is really strange but I was just wondering if this has ever happened to anyone else. I just got back from a road trip to SoCal (12 days for 2 weddings). At first, I was hesitant to put the miles on my car but to anyone who's on the fence...just do it! Our cars are so great to take on road trips! Plus, I didn't have to drive a crappy rental while out there.
Anyway, something weird happened on the way down. Somewhere between St George, UT and Barstow, CA, I would hear a constant whistling sound coming from around the front dash area of the car (I think?). It would only happen while I was going 85-95mph, which wasn't on many stretches but a few where the speed limit was 80mph. It also happened on the way back around the same stretch of road. My girl guessed that it was due to the heat and she could be right.
Have BMW engineers never taken their designs on road trips before? LOL!
Well, it's nothing serious, just annoying and fairly loud enough that you could easily hear it over the radio.

I have this when doing around 140+ mph on the derestricted German Autobahns and I believe its to do with some air squeezing in under the front windscreen rubber seals. If I remember correctly, another member had a similar issue with their M5 when travelling at that speed. (I have not had it checked on my car, because its not as if this is a regular occurance!)
However, I have never had that whistling wind noise at the speeds you mention.

I have a lot of wind noise, even at lower speeds because the rubber trim around the front windshield has broken down and needs replacement. The rubber tends to break down and crack due to age and heat.
