O.M.G! ED Rocks!
We had the best time. Drove to Dachau, Salzburg, Berchtesgaden, Konigssee, Hohenschwangau, Rothenburg, and lots of points in between. We logged 1139km (I set the display to metric) over 6 days.
Radler (beer + lemonade or sprite) is awesome, and making one with Weissbier is even better.
The 545i is a beast; Got her up to 131 (my wife got it up to 126). NAV is KING, and the HUD just makes it better. Didn't play with the voice control, or test out the L7 audio (the engine note is music to my ears, anyway). CDV's suck. iDrive is way easier than the naysayers say. AFS and ARS are completely transparent. I didn't notice any lack of road feel through the steering wheel compared to my 330i (with the steering retrofit). The heated steering wheel is nice and thick, although the diameter may be a big big. The CWP is almost worth it just for the thick wheel.
Weather was OK, but not great. Most of the driving in the Alps (on Sunday), we couldn't really see anything above maybe 5000ft because of the mist and low cloud cover. Temps were in the mid 60's during the day (except in Munich on Thursday and Friday, when it was in the low 70's).
Hohenschwangau and it's environs are probably the most beautiful place I've ever been.
Dropped the car off Wednesday (5/5/04) at 8:15 am, and the BMWNA 800 number already says "In Transit," but the W&W site doesn't register my VIN yet. All the ships leaving in the next week arrive in NYC n.l.t. May 27, so a redelivery the first week of June isn't out of the question.
I will create a website with all my pics and a solid writeup over the weekend.

Glad you enjoyed your trip. I have been to a few of those places. Rothenburg was awesome. Did you go to the museum? Think I have been all to those except for Hohenschwangau. What is there? Beautiful car!
