Oh, and I have heard that if you take care of regularly scheduled maintenance, and drive like a sane person, you have a 200,000 mile + motor.

Just an example though, I had a full service oil change and all coolant hoses repaired and it was just under $1000. I had some reprogramming done at the time too so I am sure it all evens out somehow.

However if you find yourself needing to replace an ECU or major smog equipment it might be time for Autotrader.com.

In all honesty, although I am prepared to pay for (most) problems I may have the misfortune of encountering, next time I will get a car with a factory warranty for peace of mind. My other car has a full bumper to bumper whit a $50 deductible, and wouldn't you know it, I have never needed it.

I bought my car with 42k on it and then got the maintenance warranty extended to 100k. You can do this if your car is under 50k at the time of the extension , it was 1400.00.
The car I own has the inline 6 motor so it's been really reliable till now , 97k on the motor..

Doing your own oil changes and brakes is pretty easy from what I have found out . If I knew this I would not have extended the maintenance warranty.

+1...not to say BMW's breakdown..it's just that if something does break...it's costs some serious $$$ to fix. That being said, peace of mind is priceless...if you don't want ot go thru BMW to extend your warranty....try researching 3rd party companies as well. I know I've seen a few threads on that topic as well...

I think it's better to get the warranty, because you'll never know what's going to happen. Shite happens! IMO
