the reason for putting on 12mm spacers in the rear is to push out the wheel since the offset without the spacers is ET 28. using 12mm spacers will have the rear wheels sit flushed with the rear fenders. as coolguy said, all for cosmetic looks. most people with spacers have H&R.

only buy spacers if you have the set with offset 28 and NOT offset 17...

The very same reason we buy Mtech kits, 19"or 20-22" DUBs- Aesthetic appeal or simply cosmetics. A pair of 12mm spacers and sets of long bolts won't cost a grand. I might get 'em (again , sold original to VT)

Are you saying 166's come in different sizes? What is an "offset"?

(Sorry if this is a stupid question... I really don't know.)

I have 08 528 and i'm thinking of getting the same wheels. Did you have to drop the car?

An alignment is not required when changing wheels. It's mandatory if dropping the suspension.
