E60 sales for the month of July were down 7% from the same month last year. This marks the third stright month that the Mercedes Benz E-Class has outsold the 5 series (4,938 units to 4,525 in July). E-Class sales were up 53% over the same month last year! Otherwise, sales in the midsize premium car segment are down (Lexus GS -34%, Infiniti M -42%). The new Jaguar XF sold 947 units in July. And the new Lincoln MKS sold 2,279 units this month.

Mercedes Benz is kicking a$$ - July sales were up 12% over last year. The C-Class is leading the way with 6,241 units (up 45%). Even still, it doesn't touch the BMW 3 series at 11,303 units in July (-2%). The Cadillac CTS is still selling well, up 38% over last year to 5,262 units.

Most of the numbers, I'm not suprised at. Folks are going away from big expensive gas guzzling vehicles, explaining the downturn in 5,6,7 & X sales. The 3 has lots of new competition (including the 1 series) as does the X3. It is likely the lower end BMWs that will loose out to value shoppers as well. The Mini and 1 series gains just can't make up for the lost sales in the rest of the line.

Also I bet some folks are holding out for the new 7 and updated 3, causing them to loose more sales.
