I've been reading posts that indicate the starting point of the arc of white bars on my LCI 520d's tach should vary, depending on engine temperature.

In fact, while the white bars are viewed through a window at the edge of the dial (and it seems possible there could be a mechanism to allow a variable number to be seen), they always run from 4600 to 5000 rpm - regardless of engine temperature.

Is my tach faulty, or is the last vestige of a temperature gauge disappearing from the LCI models?

The white bars will not all go away mine have a few at the end also and I think that have to do with the type of engine you have as every engine spec is different and the white bars are there to warn you to stay away from that rev range.

He say it run from 4600 to 5000, I figure he's trying to say is moving from.

If not then get it check by the dealer.

Hi,

In my former 530iA 04/04 the amount of white stripes visible changed as the engine got warmer. In my current LCI 525iA there are always two stripes visible. Looks like they have changed it.

Regards,

jukka

This is very bad, isn't it? The only indication that the engine is operating normal temperature.

Are you sure? Can anyone confirm?

I am not so worried,

Overheating is indicated by display and after a cold start it is always necessary to use the engine "gently"

I am, as I am not pushing hard, until I know the engine is warmed up. And this is my only indication... In winter, my white strips indicated 10-20 minutes. In Summer, at least half that. How I am now supposed to know when I am able to kick down without worries?

Same here. No movement whatsoever. They are fixed at the range 4550 - 5000. (I also own an LCI 520d)
