I have the new 6FL (US option in my new 520D. At first I was very happy with it ... now I can finally listen to my iPOD in my car AND control it with the iDRIVE.
After 2 weeks of using it I have to say that the control with the iDRIVE is not so good and that is all because there is NO SEARCH option ...
Example: If I have to select 'U2' from the artist list I have to scroll through the list and with a 30GB iPOD full of music (+800 artists) this takes a lot of turning the iDrive knob.
Am I missing here something ???

Not alot of people have this option yet. Once people get it, I am sure we will hear more comments about it.

I would be remiss if I didn't point out that the iPod doesn't have a search function and that BMW is trying to provide the functionality that the iPod itself provides.

It is not THAT big a deal to use the iDrive controller. I'm presuming you have a car with the new iDrive (start March production) sans haptic feedback.

Indead ... iPod has no search functionality ... but it has some intelligent way of scrolling. When you scroll, you can snap to the first letters of items in the list and jump from A to B with passing all the items starting with A. Feedback or not, I still have to scroll through a list of 800 artists (5000 items if I would like to search on songname).

Do you get full artists / tracks listed ? or do you get stuff like FF45 FF46 etc ? I just got my car today and one of the first things i tried was the Ipod and was left underwhelmed. Im missing a trick somewhere, I left the thing plugged in for at least 10 minutes, so it should have downloaded the track info by then ? Im using the std USB Ipod cable that came with the ipod.

You may well be missing the BMW accessory cable (chargeable option in UK).

Yeah, the dealer said that they have not got those in and that they have heard they dont work !!!. Im sure someone got the ipod working without the official cable, but I cant find the post.

It works a treat with a memory stick, so not sure why its playing up with the ipod.
