I upgraded my iPod Touch 2nd Gen to OS 3.0 last week, and since then I've been seeing problems with the iPod integration kit. The first time the iPod is connected, the menus come up as normal, everything works as expected. However, once I shut the car off, and come back to it later in the day the iPod menus try to load (I get the "Searching" info on the iDrive) but eventually it seems to give up and the iPod menu closes and switches to radio. From that point on the MP3 1-6 options disappear from the iDrive and won't return until the ipod is disconnected and reconnected.

This seems to have started after the upgrade to OS 3.0, I can't find any comments on this forum or elsewhere on line. I guess the number of iPod Touch users with the BMW iPod kit isn't that big, plus the OS 3.0 firmware was only released last Thursday.

I'm still tinkering around to see if I can find the problem, but any other iPod Touch / iPhone owners out there using the OEM iPod adaptor may want to hold off on the upgrade for now.

My iPhone 3G with the updated 3.0 software now lets me listen to the voicemail through the cars bluetooth which I could not do before.

You need an adaptor to switch the way the Ipod kit charges your iPod. The OEM adaptor uses the old 12V firewire standard which Apple disabled with the new iPod touch and iPhone. The Scoshe charging adaptor will do this:

On the OS 3.0 subject, it definately causes issues. Downgrading back to OS 2.2.1 isn't easy, you have the jailbreak the iPod to do. Upshot of this being:

DO NOT UPGRADE YOUR iPOD TOUCH TO OS 3.0 IF YOU USE THE OEM BMW ADAPTOR!!!!!

At least not until they fix this is in a subsequent upgrade, if they do at all...

That's really cool! I'll have to give this a try. Just upgraded to 3.0 a couple of days ago. REALLY like / previously missed the new copy/paste feature. Very simple to use and a must-have.

I have the BMW Ipod Interface and it works with the older nano3, but it would not recognize the second gen Ipod Touch 32G.

After plugging in, the Ipod screen says "charging is not supported" and then change to the music folders displaying name of songs. The BMW Logo is not displayed on the Ipod Touch.

I know charging is not supported and it seems the interface stops right after it accesses the files.

So, will this chargin adapter solve the connectivity issue?

Thanks

If you have an iPhone, it's a free upgrade, but if you don't, you pay $10. PM me if you want 3.0 for free.
