I'm looking to get an iPod interface adapter on my 2005 545i. Any suggestions other than the one from BMW? My car has the Navi and Logic7. The dealer wants $490 for the installation, apparently they have to reprogram the iDrive. I thought I can just disable the CD changer, connect the iPod interface adaptor and I'm set. Any input/help will be apppreciated. Thanks guys!

You have to disconnect the cd changer...Then you can install the ipod device yourself...Once your done you have to go to the dealer and have them program your car...No way around it....It should only take an hour though for the software upgrade...

Would you know how much it would cost for the software upgrade? I have an extended service warranty until 2011 btw. Thanks skeeter!

I purchased the interface from NewPort BMW after seeing their post for 25% off parts for E60 member. I was quaoted $231 for the interface, by far the cheapest price I've seen. Depending on your dealers hourly charge, you may be able to come out at just over $300.

I called my local dealer and they quoted me $210 for the software upgrade....I'll check a couple other dealers and see what they say...

If using iDrive to control your iPod isn't a concern (not sure if that is what you are trying to accomplish) then go for the Aux Input. $65 for the part and 1 hour of labor (install and software) which was $145 at my dealer.

Might I suggest the Dension Gateway 500....I think it's better than the BMW ipod integration. Do a search and see for yourself.
