Hi all,
I just took delivery on a used 07 530i. It comes with the Navigation but no CDC. I want to install an ipod interface but not the OEM. My brother was telling me about the Gateway 500 which, from what I have read, looks great. So many options, USB, bluetooth, etc..
The stealer tells me it will cost about $650 to $750 to install the OEM because they have to install and programming and about 2 1/2 hrs work.
It seems that at the end of the day what ever I do, the stealer has to program the car.
I would like to get the gateway 500. It seems that the dealer will not program the car if it is not the OEM ipod interface. at the end of the day not matter what I do I have to get them involve.
If i buy the Gateway 500, is there a dealer in southern california that will program the car without the OEM. And is there a place in SC that I can buy the gateway 500?

My Ride: 04 545i sport, stick, L7, sat, nav. Charcoal/ runflat/ cdv delete.
Suede headliner/ trunk, 3 way front speakers, four 8" subs in rear shelf, ACM, iPod dock in ash tray using gateway 500 with MP3 text and video on screen, MRTM aluminum pedals/ door pins, 10 farad cap, sound processor, line conditioner, 2 amps ( 4x100 and 2x200)
I am going to have to recommend myself here if that is ok.
I can sell/install/program the Gateway 500 for you. I own a stereo shop in OC that specializes in BMWs.

I already have the Ipod interface (MOST) but interested in your Ipod/Iphone ash tray dock. Can it charge while playing mp3s?
The gateway 500 will play mp3 on any E60 with the MP3 software. I personally loaded my 01/04 545 with the MP3 software because for 2 years the dealer said it was impossible on pre 03/05 cars. As far as charging goes the current version of the gateway 500 ( with white cable ) will charge all the new iPods and iPhones including the iPhone3GS. The dock I showed in the photo can be custom ordered with any cable in it that you wish.
The docks I use are made by my friends Randy and Matt over at 2point5.com. BTW they also have a dock for the LCI E60 too. There are no photos on the website yet but here is a picture of the prototype they sent me... it replaces the front storage tray on the LCI E60.

Also the dealer installed BMW Ipod and Sat radio are no longer made. BMW recently discontinued them. so if you want a OEM one they are both limited to Dealer stock on hand.
I was told there may be a 2 year wait for a new Alpine SAT radio from BMW....
Ipod the issue seems to be with the pin change for charging and new codes have to be made...
