Interior moisture

Gruppe,
I have an 04 545i with 71k miles. This winter, I have noticed on rain days that my car seems to contain moisture on the inside. I leave the car parked for the day outside, when I come back, there is a warm, humid feel to the interior and the rear window is fogged over on the inside. The front window has some fogging too.
I have read about some cars experiencing leakage in the rear quarter panel seams allowing water to puddle in the spare tire well. I have inspected that twice in the last few months (including last night) and it's dry with no evidence of water in there.
My rear window trim on the outside is looking a bit tattered from weather. The dealer assured me that the glass is sealed to the body and that rubber trim is only cosmetic.
I was not running the AC, but I did have the heat on for the short morning drive.
Any suggestions where to look next?
Regards, Jeff

It can simply be the result of damp floor mats...
I use rubber floor mats and especially at winter time some snow is carried inside on shoes and when I leave the warm car, the water on the floor mats will evaporate and cause some fog on windows.
Just my two cents.

your dealer is right about the rear glass seal.
how is your sunroof seal? if its original, i'd replace it becuase not only do they lose their shape, it also creates wind noise.
have you felt your carpet to make sure its not wet?
also, check for water under the spare tire.

As Turbo has mentioned, it is possible for water to make its way in and under passenger side seat and cook electronics. Do a search on this as their is plenty of good info here on this very topic.

I agree, and would recommend using the ac more often (yes you can have warm air and ac) It will draw out the water from the interior and defog the window better then just warm air by itself..

Have you noticed that your engine coolant level was low? In my experience you'd have to have pretty wet carpets to cause that kind of steaming up. I suspect it's a leaking heater core.

You may or may not smell anything...carpets are thick and maybe he's running more water mix...who knows. I probably wouldn't START there but i'd definitely check that out if i ran out of options. I had some water IN my rear passenger door and it fills up everytime it rains. I have to keep the plug out so it will drain...it will not enter the vehicle due to the way the door is designed but who knows. Checked EVERYWHERE

I can smell a couple drops in the engine compartment if it were to get into the car there is no way you cannot smell it, but then again I was a tech and trained to smell, taste, and hear certain things.
