Cool air for a hot day, unless you have the independent heater fitted.

I think it just blows outside air into the cabin... so whatever the temp the air is outside is what you'll get. Its for cooling not really heating... or like 535 said... unless you have a engine block heater.

In the wintertime it should give all the warmth the car can give (which isn't much in a diesel)
and in the summertime all the cold it has (which isn't much either).

For optimum comfort you should have a remotedly controlled diesel warmer (I think BMW has
one to offer one, retrofits are available e.g. from Ebersp?cher).

What kind of stand-by heater do you have? BMW optional heater, retrofitted Webasto/Eberspr?cher or a electrical heater?

It is to get air from the outside into the car. Meant to cool down the interior on hot days when you leave the car in the sun and know when you return.
If you have the independendant heater you can also get warm air in the car. This can also be done by remote.

Jekku, It's simply air circulation from the outside, if you know when you'll return (e.g. a few minutes before you leave work).

FWIW, I have found that holding the key remote button down, as I walk toward the car on a hot day, thereby letting all the windows down, does a fine job of expelling hot air. By the time you get to the car, and maybe pull out of your parking spot, you can turn the A/C on.

Cheers,

Exactly, this works well for me in the hot Florida summers (thats 8 months worth for u yankees )

I can get this to work from about 40 steps from the car so it has easiliy released that blast of hot air.
