My Ride: Arrived 3 June 2005: 2005 545i - Orient Blue, Black interior, Sport, Steptronic, Cold Weather, NAV, Sirius, Logic7, Comfort Seats, Sunshades. What a glorious ride!

Whether or not tires (tyres? colour?) lose pressure appears to be more a function of quality control of the wheels, and not the tires so much. This is because of the fact that seating of the tire bead against the wheel rim is critical in sealing up the system.

A bit offtopic, but can anyone suggest a portable air compressor/inflator. I've seen those little ones, but not sure if I'd be wasting my money.

Just to the contrary, stream, mine seem to hold the pressure exceptionally well.

I second JDN comments of RF holding pressure better than normal tire. I check my wifes car with Pilot Sports and mine with Bridgestone RF at same time. I adjust hers more often than mine (3:1), but both are pretty good. Always in AM after sitting overnight so I get consistent results.

I cannot remember brand, I'll look up tonight, but sure it was from Sears, WalMart, etc. Probably no more than $40 range. Does 4 cars/trucks, riding mower and bicycle with no problems. Handy little gadget.

Both BMW and Porsche have nice, small inflators in the accessories catalog. New Porsches and many BMWs come with these standard, no spare. Also carry a can of factory issue sealant and a good pressure gauge. This can be useful at times even if you have a spare.
No new BMW I have ever bought was delivered with proper tire pressures and all required wheel alignment, at my expense.

.As you may have seen from other threads, I was unable to go through the full checklist when collecting my car.
I checked the tyre pressure today:
3.1 front
3.5 rear
I changed it to:
2.3 front
2.7 rear...
What a difference!
Much Much more comfortable on rough roads!
I stilI have to do a bit more driving to determine if there is any differencc in noise IeveIs.

Sears has a craftsman one for around $20 or so. Need to stop by and pick that one up as it looks better than the home depot one that I saw. Just not sure if I should get the 12 volt one or the rechargeble one though.

I had the flat tire sensor come up the other day, and going to the gas station is just a pain.

Unit I have is a Campbell Hausfeld RP6100. Around $32. It is a 12v. Long cord. Works well.

$40 from walmart... have had it for like 3 years... its AC powered so it pumps A LOT faster and is more reliable than portable car powered ones...

I have like a total of 4 compressors...

1 AC wall unit one $40

1 Portable Cig Lighter one $30 includes energency triangle, fash lights etc...

1 Portable Cig Lighter w/out accessories $ ??

1 Jump Start Kit w/ compressor... rechargable battery $30

Much prefer the AC one that plugs into the garage for power.

After I had corrected my pressures thought I would just check them with a Michelin pump I have at home.

Hence have found out that the cigarette lighter (12v outlets front and rear) only work with the engine running or ignition on.

In all my previous cars this 12v power outlet has always worked without the need to have the ignition on.

Is this the same for all e60's or do I have a fault?
