if you do not drive your bimmer long enough to recharge the battery (low mile driving profile <10k miles/yr), then you should get a battery tender to charge the car. Warranty may cover it depending on your driving profiles.

I've been having the same issue with my 535i. I took it in yesterday and they performed a voltage drain analysis and said everything is operating normal but it had a bad battery. The battery was replaced and I drove it home (40 minute drive) and when I got in it this morning I got the same message again and had to rest the time/date. From all the posts pertaining to this issue, there has to be something wrong with electronics with the e60. I've had the same driving patterns with my e90 and a G37s without draining the battery overnight. Sorry to vent, it's just frustrating to have a car of this caliber that needs to be put on a charger every night like a 1980's POS.

I'm taking mine in tomorrow to have further troubleshooting performed. I'm starting to think it could have something to do with my iPod connectivity. I left my iPod connected the other night and when I went to start in the morning I received the error message and had to reset the time/date. So, last night I happened to take my iPod out of the car and today it started no problem. I'm still want this issue resolved and will let you guys know what comes out of the troubleshooting.

In my vehicle the problem traced back to a faulty seat heater...interestingly, three energy diagnostics didnt pick this up. It was only after I got so pissed off that I complained to the GM that they figured it out. I think the problem is if the defect or draw doesnt occur when the car is on the monitor, there's no way to detect it. The energy diagnostics didnt help in my case --- the dealers thought I was crazy as I kept bringing the car back!!!
All fixed now without issues..

I just received my 530i back from the same issue. The dealership quoted "Aftermarket amplifier wired straight to battery causing IBS to monitor irregular amp draw - found aftermarket subwoofer amp wired straight to battery post. Neg cable is ground before intelligent batt sensor causing irregular current draw readings." I had the amplifier since I purchased the vehicle back in Dec 06 without ever having "Increased Battery Discharged" displayed. It works fine for now and will just deal with resetting the speed limit and date/time.
BMW does not want you to connect anything strait to the negative battery terminal. It is ok to have an amplifier, just that you must ground it on the other side of the IBS current draw sensor so the car can measure the current your amplifier is using. If your amplifier was mounted to a metal panel of the car then your amplifier created a bypass circuit to the battery sensor for other devises in the car to use for ground path also. Hope this helps.
