Well, it was a choice between this or an Infinity I35; I decided to try the Charger, as it has the hemi in it.

The reason for all this is that my "Electronic Failure" warnings are taking a ton of diagnoses, and no clear cure in sight yet. There's even talk of a new instrument cluster (with a zeroed odo??? ) They have never seen this report before, and especially not the regular morning occurance of the warning (about 10 minutes into my first drive).

First comment is how high you sit in the Charger, almost like an SUV; seems quite peppy, but no heroics yet.

In any event, I get to hot rod around in a navy blue Charger for the weekend, courtesy BMW NA.

Cheers,
Ray Hull

Nothing like marketing hype to sell 1930's engine technology and make it something people seem to want. BMW used hemispherical combustion chambers back in the pre WWII 328.

When I first started reading your post I thought you traded down to a Charger - man what an idiot. Then I realized it was a loaner.

Midwest Muscle car compared to the Ultimate driving machine. Problaby fun for some hole drops, but make sure you slow down before hitting the exit ramp.

We all want a report on Monday. What I really want to know is if my 545i can beat it - I would assume yes. All the people I see running around in thier Hemi charges think they are hot-shit.

PS - don't bother with the pictures - we know what one looks like.

PS2 - if anybody on the forum has a charger, I apologize for offending them. Actually I think chrysler did a good job on the car.

Guys: It's a very vanilla R/T (whatever that is) with crappy 225 60x18 M&S Goodyears and numb suspension. Has straightline thrust, but is nothing to write home about. The most overwhelming impression is that of airy cabin space and height inside; with very forward A pillars, it seems like acres to the base of windshield, (which appears to be the only non-cheap plastic piece in the cabin). The tan leather seats are a nice contrast to the Orient blue exterior, but not at all hugging in nature.

I like the high seating position, but have no idea what it would be like to handle a clutch from such a 1950s bolt-upright seat. Then again, 5 series interiors are still rated as "compact" size by the US government, so this is an odd comparison. (see my profile pic to see how I fit in it)

But I love the direct access to the marginal radio options; after I dialed out the headbanger rock stations, it sounded very Detroit in its delivery of orchestral music. Dial in a thumper bass station and the whole thing pulses. I may get brave and try a CD tomorrow.

Fun to see how the other half lives, and it does turn a totally different crowd of heads...I no longer feel (momentarily) intimidated by Hemi pickups on my rear bumper...lol.

Ray Hull

PS: Chrysler began using hemi heads around 1950, so it's just a marketing rebirth for them. However, that "slant-four" engine in my pictured 2002 on the left, looked eerilly familiar from my slant-six Chrysler experience.

Ray,
I'm curious to know what types of "Electronic Failure" warnings you had and if the dealership was able to diagnose and fix the problem. I'm also having some electronic problems i.e. Dynamic drive light comes on and off, Gas cap loose light (eventhough i've tightened my gas cap over and over again), my speedometer is off by 5 mph, and sometimes my car's idrive and gauge cluster flickers and resets itself... Do you have such problems as well or is it something else? Thanks!

I have included above, the items that sound familliar (no other). Mine seem to occur about 10 minutes into cold start/morning drive, then reset and remain quiet, generally until the next day. They can flair up at other times, and sometimes repeat 6-8 times in a row. The Service Advisor wondered if the instrument cluster was loose or failing. But, due to such TIMED (temp?) intervals, I think it is reaching operating temp and encountering a problem; but what do I know? It's been going on since Day 1 and updates didn't cure it. It seems that they are going to get to the bottom of it this time...meanwhile, I'm rough and ready in my Hemi...
