2. Carbon black was not available in US till MY 2008
3. All 8-cyl E60s in US came with leather
4. Style 167 wheels belong to M5. Look pathetic on non-M cars. Save money for lower mileage or newer car.

1. Stay away from 2004-2005 545s. Get 2006 530 for the same money. Early production V8-s were nothing but trouble

2. ok, I will find another color, thats not such a big issue.
3. Nice.
4. I would agree that the 167's would look pathetic on a 1995 BMW 7 series but on a 2004 545i they dont look so bad judging by the peoples rides here on the forum.

2) We've already mentioned this...
3) True
4) Style 167 is actually the M6 wheel. Style 166 is the M5 wheel. And both look good on an E60 IMO...

1) Some very early models had growing pains associated with the introduction of a new model. My 2004 545 was flawless. Before buying, check out the service record of the car carefully. But you would do this before any car purchase.

Just to support kscarrol post see attached document. I had a minor scrape on the side and this is what my GEICO insurance adjuster gave me. Especially pay attention to last 2 parts.

I have 2004 530 and I have been very lucky... I have checked all work done on my car and there have not been anything major. Recently I did the passenger airbag update, and I must agree that 05 or 06 would be better years.

Yep, there were those recalls and others, but as I said, my experience with a 2004 was very good. Others weren't so lucky. Best bet is to stick with 2005 or later...
Edit:
bauska530i - thanks for the usefull info, I much appreciate it.

As to problems - numerous: AS, engine, transmission, rattles, crazy software.
