HAHA! In '06, both cars had 3.0 litre engines.
Touche.

But I'd still take the 2006 BMW 530's 255 bhp vs. the 2006 BMW 525's 215 bhp. That's a big difference.

Which would you pick? The 530i is automatic M-Sport, the 525i is a manual with Sport and Prem. Both '06.

No question, 530i. Yes, more HP. But it has the M-sport option!!! That mod alone is like 3k. Now all that's left is to get over the MT. It is a hard one that I fight every day I get in it...I miss MT very much.

Yeah, I would say go 530i. If it was an E39 525 vs an E60 530, I would have judge soley on aesthetics, and I think the E39 is one of the best looking BMWs. Yes, even better than our E60s. I'm referring to the LCI E39s, of course, the ones with the euro fronts and angels.

Never thought I'd see a question such as this... maybe I can help you out - I have a fully loaded '06 530 - how much is the one you're looking at?

The 530i is at $28,900 @ 67k km's. The 525i is $31,900 @ 61k km's (although I think I can talk him down in price, but who knows).

The thing making me lean towards the 525i is the fob key with black on black w/ MT, but the thing making me want the 530i is the M-Sport and extra 40hp.

edit: the 530i doesn't have the fob key (I really want the push to start button =) )

Once you go BMW V8, you'll be hooked.
Why what about the mpg. V8 is more noisy and not as smooth as inline six. If I want a noisy V8 I would get corvette. I think BMW is unique because its inline six can provide smooth and soundless acceleration.

Honestly, man, you want your BMW to have as much power as possible. You don't have to buy RIGHT NOW, do you? Just wait for that perfect one to come around - these two each sound like they're missing one thing or another. Having no choice, but these two, the obvious choice for me would be the 530 - hands down. But again, I would simply wait some more and get the car I REALLY want.

And just for comparison - bc I'm assuming you are not in the U.S. - I'm now thinking about listing my car for sale for about $25.5k - its a 530Xi, sport, prem, cold wthr, Navi, PDC (even has your most-wanted push start ) - mine has 49,000 miles on it and is Alpine white on black with bamboo and of course manual transmission.
