ok so i go to the dealer to get my idrive upgraded so i can read mp3 cds on my 2005 530i e60 no nav and cdc in the glove. the service guy says that bmw and the shop forman says its impossible. i told him that on the forum they sayd its possible. he told me to ask for a vin and or the idrive software version that was used to update the idrive please help me out cuz this thing is pissing me offffffff. >:

Sorry, but as I recall the service guy is right on this. Prior to 2006 or 2007 model year cars in the US, you need Nav to have the proper computer to get the mp3 upgrade. Non-Nav cars have a different system...

Keep in mind that the document kscarrol posted only deals with CCC based (navigation equipped) cars so it won't apply to non-nav cars. Also, there's actually been an update to the bulletin he posted. Here's a link to a recent post where the latest version of the bulletin is available:
