idrive self update

hello ladies and gentlemen,
who can help me lil bit further? I am busy with updating the idrive story looks like it is a never ending story. and an expensive story. now i have found this bmw v29 program on the net. extension names are *.mdf and *.mds. Size about 302 mb. now I wonder if this the right idrive update? And if so which program I need to upload the new ware into the car.
hope one of you can help me out.

car is a 525 2005 model

you doing the update yourself??? Brave man... if it works, you can do mine.. assuming you're in the UK!!

Besides the software you found on the net, how are you attempting to perform this update? What hardware are you using? How are you connecting to the car?

As far as I know, without the proper equipment, updating the software is not a DIY job...

You found navigation software, not idrive...

ok well thanks for the info anyway. looks like i need to give my wife an extra hug and kiss to pass by the dealer hehehe

HEELLOOO This is BMW we're talking about. Last time I asked for something free I got a reply of.....

FFRRREEEEEEEEEEEEEE?????? (in the context of Dime bar??? if you can remember those ads)

Never mind, I wish they were free, but with the amount of iDrive cars sold against number of updates (seems there are more than what Microsoft produce!) logistically it would be a nightmare!

Well they're free over in Thailand. I never get charged for updates.
